Based on Regional Development law amendment and the Ministry of Regional Development and Local governments the Kurzeme Planning Region is admitted a juridical person. The Kurzeme Planning Region is founded on the 2nd of October 2006. Under the Kurzeme Planning Region are two institutions. Institution of rule is Kurzeme Planning Region Development Council. Institution of execution is the administration of the Kurzeme Planning Region.

Kurzeme Planning Region Development Council

Kurzeme Planning Regions Development Council is institution witch consist of 19 members from local governments in Kurzeme. It consists of: 2 members from cities of Ventspils and Liepaja, and other members are from districts Aizputes, Alsungas, Brocēnu, Dundagas, Durbes, Grobiņas, Kuldīgas, Nīcas, Pāvilostas, Priekules, Rojas, Rucavas, Saldus, Skrundas, Talsu, Vaiņodes un Ventspils.

The main function of the Kurzeme Planning Region Development Council is to coordinate cooperation with others region municipalities, government institutions, international institutions and others juridical and physical persons to develop and for long standing the Kurzeme Region.

Since the 1st January 2007 Kurzeme Planning Region Development Council the chairperson is Indra Rasa – the chairperson of Saldus District Council.
