Visiting Latvia and Estonia you have access to military heritage locations such as museums, military equipment, trails, bunkers, battle sites, military towns, infrastructural objects, as well as memorial sites which speak to the era from the beginning of World War I in 1914 and the establishment of both countries’ independence in 1918, till the period of restoration of independence in 1990/1991.

Military heritage locations have descriptions, related memory stories, historical and present-day photographs, tourism services and recommendations on travel routes.  There is also information about a great many lesser known and less often visited sites that nevertheless are important historical locations of military heritage in Latvia and Estonia.

Each military heritage location has the following information:

  • Description of the site
  • Historical and present-day photos
  • Linked historical periods and a timeline of events
  • Related historical topics
  • Memory stories
  • Internet links and social network contacts
  • GPS co-ordinates
  • A link to the map
  • Addresses and contact information (for many objects, such as battle and memorial sites, former military buildings, the address and telephone number do not exist and therefore cannot be listed)

There are routes to visit military heritage locations.  Each one includes the type of travel, the schedule of the route day by day, the military heritage location, and choices related to accommodations and catering. When planning your trip, we recommend that you precisely know information such as the opening hours of venues and the services that are available there.

The project “Latvian-Estonian joint military heritage tourism product” (“Military Heritage”) is implemented in the Interreg Estonia-Latvia cross-border cooperation program for 2014-2020. A total of 25 partners and 36 military heritage sites in Latvia and Estonia are involved in the project.

The Project is co-financed by the INTERREG Estonia Latvia programme  2014. – 2020. (More inormation about project partners (celotajs.lv))
